Independent thoughts on the most important election in the history of Los Angeles
I was a candidate for the Office of City Attorney in the March 3, 2009 Primary Election. 36,905 Los Angelenos voted for me, not enough to win the election, not enough to get into the run-off, but more than enough to ensure that Jack Weiss did not get a majority.
Jack’s $1.7M campaign failed miserably to capture the City Attorney’s Office; he polled only 36.47%. I polled 14.21% - if I had not run and my votes were applied to Jack’s he would have won an outright majority.
My campaign is over, but my quest to restore Leadership, Experience and Integrity to City Hall continues. I have therefore unequivocally endorsed Carmen “Nuch” Trutanich as the best man for the job, the best man to beat Jack Weiss on May 19, 2009, and the best man for our City.
I hope you will browse this site to see why we need Trutanich now more than ever, and that you, like me, will vote for Trutanich on May 19, 2009.
Sincerely,
David Berger
Candidate for City Attorney (2009)
I’m a career prosecutor; a 12 year veteran of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with an established record of fighting crime and making cities safer.
I’m not a politician. You won’t get politically correct doublespeak from me, just the plain facts. The plain facts are often disturbing and as a deputy district attorney I’ve never been shy from revealing the sometimes ugly truth about the way that gangs and drug dealers turn communities into nightmares for residents.
In the primary election, all the candidates talked about what they were going to do if elected. None, but me, could talk about what they had actually done. So take a look at what CNN and ABC Eyewitness News reported on my efforts to fight crime effectively.
My work earned me a US Congressional Award as “Crime Buster of the Year,” so when it comes to making communities safer, I think I have the experience necessary to know how to improve the never ending fight against crime.
Career politicians like Jack Weiss and Rocky Delgadillo have no interest in serving the public, rather, they use public office to serve their own interests and those of the small but wealthy cadre of greedy “special interests” who fund their campaigns in return for favors when decisions over controversial matters such as billboards and development have to be made by elected officials.
All too often, the City Council’s actions support the special interests at the expense of the interests of the ordinary people like you and me.
When common sense dictates that our already over-congested streets should not be further burdened by more high-density luxury condominium developments, Jack Weiss sides with the developers and contractors who funnel campaign contributions to further their interests.
